Events and Team Building

Why cookery courses make ideal team-building events

Food is often dubbed ‘a universal language’, a lingua franca with a unique capacity to unite and inspire humans, creating memorable shared experiences.

Regardless of the location and the cuisine, the process of preparing, cooking and sitting down to eat food together is one that anyone in your company can enjoy and appreciate, whatever their age or rank.

Cooking can also be a great leveller – a truly inclusive social activity that allows individuals to form a cohesive team, striving towards a common aim in a relaxed environment.

Team building in the ‘new normal’

Cookery classesIn the light of the Covid crisis, corporate team building is now more vital than ever for businesses of all sizes as they move towards the ‘new normal’.

With many staff members working remotely from home as opposed to under one office roof, finding ways of encouraging your teams to (re)bond can pose a challenge. So now is an important time to invest in building your team.

And that’s where I can help. Get in touch to find out how.

Corporate team-building with a culinary twist

If you’re looking for an unusual team-building idea, let me create a culinary package for you that suits both the size of your group and the aims of your corporate event.

Your options for food-related team-building activities are many and varied, ranging from live cooking demonstrations through to full-blown participatory cookery classes.

I can deliver your team-building cookery course in several ways:

  • At my cookery studio on Falkland Estate in Fife.
  • On-site at your business premises.
  • Via Zoom or a similar platform (depending on the restrictions in place at the time).

During these informal and enjoyable classes, your staff will learn how to prepare, cook and serve a meal from scratch. Then they’ll sit down, around a communal table, to relax and enjoy together the fruits of their kitchen teamwork.

Cookery workshops to engage and inspire employees

Team building with cookingNot sure how your team would respond to participating in a team-building cookery workshop? Based on feedback from the many corporate cookery courses I’ve delivered over the past 20 years, you are certain to be pleasantly surprised!

In my professional experience, cooking courses are an extremely effective way to boost team morale and engage employees – better still, they’re highly enjoyable and fully socially inclusive.

With cookery classes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating …

I’ve led countless highly successful corporate CPD and team-building events for a wide range of companies and organisations over the years. Here’s just a selection of the extremely positive feedback from happy participants in cookery classes that I’ve run recently for private and corporate clients:

"Christopher ran a cookery demo and class for a group of us from PwC and it was a great success. He got the measure of us very quickly and the event was fun, lively and yet useful. He happily accommodated those with special dietary needs without that hijacking the whole group. The recipes were simple enough to be accessible to the non-cooks and yet still captured the attention of those more regularly in the kitchen. We are still talking about that day months later." [PwC]

“Thank you very much for the great event; everyone loved it. The food, the format, the surroundings – it couldn’t have been better! Definitely an experience to remember. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!” [Baillie Gifford]
